Kids

Well I didn't mean for this to become an all rap blog but fuck it, shit happens. But anyway made it out to Berkeley today in search of kicks but wound up in the hat shop on Telegraph. Picked up a mixtape that caught my eye because the cover flipped the poster for the movie Kids. Which is a movie that i saw when i was waaaayyy too young and still kinda get weird about... all weirdness aside though i saw it was a Dj Eleven mix. Him and Matthew Africa did that incredible Best of Too $hort mix that was my summer soundtrack last year and probably will be this year too. But yeah it spotlights B-town duo The Cataracs, who you might know from " Blueberry Afghani," ("come and holler whatsup..." ) Shit is tight. I know a few free weekly papers out there have declared hyphy dead and all but this kinda shits on that notion. I mean its not all scrapers and slaps but it finds a very listen-to-able medium between hyphy and dance music. Plus any mix that includes "I'm a Drifter" and Kid Cudi will get bumped.

Plus who knew they were white kids? not me.

'Bama Gettin' Money!

Wow this is my shit. I know they've been blogged about alot but the Diplo/ Benzi sampler for Alabama rap label Paper Route Recordz is A-mazing. Techno samples! Southern Drawls! Remixes! Its all mixed together for a solid 16 minute spacey trip-out fest. Get acquainted with Alabama here: http://www.djbenzi.streetvideomix.com/benzi_&_diplo_present_paper_route_gangstaz_-_the_mixtape_sampler.mp3

Put it in reverse

So E-40 and some dude named Lil' Jon have once again teamed for 40 water's newest single "Turf Drop." The song is about an impossible looking dance that i'm sure you've seen kids around doing (and probably tried once or twice) over a super minimalist beat. Sounds weak on paper i know but its 40 so it still achieves awesomeness. Shit E-40 could probably just talk about Moby Dick over a beat and it would probably still melt your mind and introduce at least 3 new words into your daily vernacular.
The song has its own Myspace page to upload videos of you and your bros turf droppin'. So flip your beanie up, shake a dread or two, start studying youtube and grab you 15 minutes.

PS wouldn't it be dope if hip hop dancers started dressing like Turbo and O-zone again
